The House with the Green Shutters

This is an interview with Gerry and Alexander McCall Smith for Janet Forsyth’s BBC show. It’s all about the novel ‘The House with the Green Shutters’ that we adapted in 1983 and took on our first tour! The interview starts 27 minutes into the programme.

We’re very pleased to have our new website up and running. The company has several projects in development.

At the Edinburgh Book Festival last year we mounted a rehearsed reading of Cyrano de Bergerac,* in the translation by Edwin Morgan, commissioned by Communicado in the late nineties. This was at the request of the Book Festival and on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of Eddie’s death. The reading was sold out and a great occasion as many members of the audience had seen the original production. We are now in talks about mounting a revival in the near future, as part of a retrospective of the work of the company over the past thirty odd years.

Gerry has received a writing commission for an adaptation of the novel The Skallagrigg, which he is working on at present. We hope to produce this later in the year.

We are also about to commission a new play set at the time of the Irish Civil War in the 1920’s from the great Irish writer and actor Donal O’Kelly.
