Communicado was formed as an actors’ company, and has always sought to engage the energies and attributes of the ensemble of actors in speech, song, music making and physicality in order to tackle the demands of theatrical story telling. Our repertoire is Scottish and International. We believe that the audience is at least as important as the artist in the creation of theatre.

The company has performed at the official Edinburgh International Festival (Danton’s Death), and many times at the Edinburgh Fringe. Our awards include six Fringe Firsts on the Edinburgh Fringe, four Edinburgh Evening News awards, the Hamada Prize, the Glasgow Herald Angel award, and also the very first Prudential Award for the whole of British Theatre. Our productions of The House with the Green Shutters and A Wee Home from Home were televised for BBC Scotland, and Jock Tamson’s Bairns, commissioned for the opening of Glasgow 1990 Year of Culture, was the subject of a South Bank Show special documentary for ITV. The company was featured three years running at the Donmar Warehouse “Pick of the Fringe” in London’s West End, and also in London has appeared at The Place, The Almeida, The Drill Hall and the Royal Festival Hall.
